Artificial Intelligence (AI) aims to pull off human-like activities. The availability of a large health database can increase the costs of treatment; with changing times now the healthcare sector has started to see improvements in advanced analytics. Cities in a poor country often struggle between the medical benefits of better cities where the lack of healthcare providers becomes the major reason for the unavailability and poor quality of healthcare services in rural areas. Intelligent technology in medical Artificial Intelligence (AI) will definitely improve the services and receptivity of doctors in rural areas. Perhaps the effort to promote technology in all backward parts around the world can be done as a means to reduce the disparity between urban healthy practice and rural.
a. Early diagnosis and prevention of complications: The importance of early detection is immense. It usually leads to more cures, fewer complications and shorter treatment periods. It can reduce the burden on the healthcare system. This has led to various screening programs being introduced for various diseases. In some cases like cancer and stroke, where early symptoms may be scarce, early detection is important to decide the treatment. Non-communicable diseases like hypertension, diabetes, cancer, stroke etc. are like an iceberg of which only the tip is visible. These diseases remain undiagnosed until there is a complication or the patient does not go for a routine check-up.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be of great help in this area. Artificial Intelligence (AI) uses mathematical algorithms and data-science from the human body to make a diagnosis, which is better than doctors. It gives the common man the ability to take immediate action or consult a physician for diseases that may otherwise be serious. One of the most effective forms of increasing interest in AI is the diagnosis of cancer and cardiovascular field. Villar et al. developed a motion-detecting device for early stroke prediction. Two ML algorithms – Genetic Fuzzy Finite State Machine and PCA were implemented in the device for the model building solution. The detection process included a human activity recognition stage and a stroke-onset detection stage. Once the patient’s activity significantly deviates from the normal pattern, a stroke alert will be activated and the patient will be evaluated for treatment as soon as possible.
b) Disease Management: Some diseases like epilepsy, vertigo, tremors, etc. are erratic in nature. Even with treatment, patients are advised not to perform certain daily activities like driving. Artificial Intelligence (AI) can provide assistance in these cases, as it has sensors and ambulatory monitors that warn the patient of an impending seizure. Wearable sensors have proven useful for quantitatively assessing gait, posture and tremor in patients with multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease and are also used to diagnose the cause of vertigo.
c) Prevention of misdiagnosis and medical errors: Though no healthcare provider or doctor wants to make a misdiagnosis, it is quite common in this field. Many times it happens through no fault of anyone. Misdiagnosis can happen due to lack of time, lack of adequate facility or field for testing, reporting issues, etc. This can sometimes be fatal and the doctor may face legal complications without being held solely responsible. Artificial Intelligence (AI) can help prevent such misdiagnoses. It can be leveraged to an extent to change lifestyle for a better and healthier world.
