The release of Google and Apple’s latest mid-range phones, the Pixel 9a and iPhone 16E, has left customers undecided about making a decision. With great battery life, latest features and price tags, whose phones reign supreme in 2025? Read what differentiates them and decide which one you need to get in 2025.
Tech lovers and smartphone users have a lot to look forward to as Google and Apple launch their new mid-range phones, the Pixel 9a and iPhone 16E. Both are fantastic in specs and software support in the long term. I haven’t used these smartphones myself, but here’s a comparison based on their different types of specs such as price and features, to help you make the right choice.
1. Design and Display
The Google Pixel 9A supports a 6.3-inch actua pold screen of 1,080 x 2,424 pixels resolution. It has a dynamic refresh rate of 60Hz to 120Hz with 2,700 nits of peak brightness, and it’s protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The iPhone 16e has a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen. Apple’s edge-to-edge screen offers an uncluttered experience, and the screen is also Ceramic Shield protected for added strength.
2. Display and software
The Pixel 9A is powered by Google’s Tensor G4 chip and Titan M2 security coprocessor. There’s 8GB of RAM and 256GB of non-expandable storage capacity. Android 15 powers it, and Google guarantees seven years of operating system and security updates for long-term usage.
Apple’s iPhone 16E is powered by the new A18 chip, which offers an 80 percent performance boost over the A13 Bionic found in the iPhone 11. Its 4-core GPU boosts graphics performance, and the 16-core Neural Engine enhances machine learning and AI capabilities. Apple also debuts its first modem chip, the C1 chip, to optimize 5G connectivity and battery life. The iPhone 16e leverages iOS 18 with added security.
3. Camera Features
The Pixel 9A from Google comes with a dual camera configuration that includes a 48MP primary sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a 13MP ultra-wide sensor. AI-driven features such as Night Sight, Magic Eraser, Best Tech, and Photo Unblur improve the cameras. The front-facing camera has a 13MP sensor that is capable of 4K/30FPS video recording.
The iPhone 16E, on the other hand, sports a 48MP Fusion Camera, which enables computational photography for better image quality. The device also comes with a 12mp Truedepth camera at the front with autofocus. It supports video recording in 4K/60fps with Dolby Vision and audio clarity.
4. Battery and Charging
Battery life is always a top concern for any smartphone owner, and Google says the Pixel 9a’s 5,100mAh battery provides over 30 hours of usage from a single charge. The phone is charged at 23W via cable and wirelessly at 7.5W.
Apple significantly enhanced battery life in the iPhone 16e, providing six extra hours of usage compared to the iPhone 11 and 12 extra hours compared to the iPhone SE phones. The phone can be connected via wireless charging and a USB-C port for easy and faster connection.
5. Security and Additional Features
Both phones prioritize security. The Pixel 9A comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor and software-based face unlock, while the iPhone 16E has Face ID for authentication.
The iPhone device comes with satellite emergency services such as emergency SOS, roadside assistance, and find me via a satellite. Crash detection also gives automatic emergency service alerts in case of a serious collision.
6. Google Pixel 9a Price and Indian Availability
The Google Pixel 9a is priced at Rs. 49,999 and will come in a single model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The colours available for sale are Iris, Obsidian, Peony, and Porcelain. Google officially announced that they will sell it in India from their retail stores next month.
The iPhone 16e costs Rs. 59,999 for the 128GB model and Rs. 69,999 and Rs. 89,900 for the 256GB and 512GB models, respectively.
7. Verdict
Both phones offer excellent mid-range performance with high-end features. The Pixel 9a leads the pack with its AI camera tech, extended battery life, and seven years of software updates. The iPhone 16E also shines with its faster A18 chip, better computational photography, and the benefit of Apple’s legendary ecosystem.
It really comes down to personal preference—those who prefer Google’s AI-driven software experience may like the Pixel 9a more, and those who are Apple enthusiasts and looking for seamless integration with other Apple devices may prefer the iPhone 16e.
