Health Risks Due To Mobile Phone Use

Mobile phones are becoming an increasingly important component of our daily lives. It is one of the most important forms of communication. Over the past two decades, the exponential growth in mobile phones has increased the amount of non-ionizing radio waves emitted, making the potential dangers of human body exposure to radio frequency electromagnetic fields a serious concern for society. Although mobile phone use is increasing at an alarming rate, the effects of mobile phones radiation exposure on human health, the effects of blue light on human eyes, and macular degeneration and its consequences have all been explored and are a topic of heated discussion. The specific absorption rate is a measure of how quickly the human body absorbs mobile phones radiation, and government regulatory bodies in many countries have established limit values for contemporary phones. This is scary because the radiation is undetectable and enters and exits our bodies without our knowledge. The radiation waves induce a 0.3-degree rise in temperature on the surface of the brain. It is unknown whether such a temperature rise has biological implications. The temperature of the brain changes regularly by about one degree, and cells are destroyed after only a five-degree increase in temperature. According to cell phone radiation testing, men’s sperm cells are destroyed by mobile phone radiation, causing them to lose reproductive transformation and experience mental health problems.

Introduction

Modern technology has brought comfort and ease to human civilization, but these technological and communication tools are also accompanied by a bunch of other indispensable elements. Electromagnetic radiation is one of these variables that is employed in mobile phones and wireless devices for signal transmission. According to several studies, EMF radiation has been linked to a variety of negative health, growth, reproduction, immune system, development, sleep, skin, and cognitive effects. The link between mobile phones and memory loss has been investigated in various ways. Because of their smaller heads, thinner skulls, and greater tissue conductivity, children can consume more energy from a given phone than adults. The power levels of wireless devices are restricted by international regulations on microwave frequency exposure limits, and it is uncommon for wireless devices to exceed these guidelines. In addition, because non-thermal effects have not yet been clearly demonstrated, these guidelines only take into account thermal effects. The topic of microwave radiation released by mobile phones (radio-frequency modulated electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF)) is a topic that may pose health problems that remain unresolved. The biological effects of RF-EMF are interruptions.

However, there are also studies where the authors claim that non-thermal RF-EMF radiation levels do not affect the permeability of the blood-brain barrier. Microwaves can cause or stimulate cancer, and symptoms associated with its use include sleep disturbances, memory problems, headaches, nausea and dizziness. There were also records of improvements in blood-brain barrier permeability, electroencephalographic activity and blood pressure.

However, some research suggests that non-thermal RF-EMF radiation levels have no effect on the permeability of the blood-brain barrier. Microwaves have been linked to sleep disturbances, cognitive difficulties, headaches, nausea and dizziness, among other symptoms. Improvements in blood brain barrier permeability, electroencephalographic activity and blood pressure were also documented. While mobile phones are meant to function at power levels below a threshold for recognized thermal effects, excess radio frequency radiation can have biological consequences. Users of wireless devices have real concerns about safety, especially when it comes to the potential risks posed by electromagnetic fields (EM). The potential negative health consequences of radiofrequency radiation (RFR), such as that emitted by mobile communication devices, have been a growing source of concern. The signal is conveyed by an electromagnetic wave using radio frequency and microwave signals to a mobile contact. This signal emits electromagnetic radiation in the form of thermal radiation, which contains both dangerous ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. While using a mobile phone, electromagnetic waves are transferred to the body, causing health concerns, especially near the ear skull, where they are known to damage neurons. The electrical impulses that bind two neurons interact with the radiations.

1. Electromagnetic Radiation: Electromagnetic radiation (EMR) is a wave-like phenomenon that emits energy as it moves through space. Both electric and magnetic fields fluctuate in phase perpendicular to each other and perpendicular to the direction of energy transmission in electromagnetic radiation. Depending on whether it is capable of ionizing atoms and breaking chemical bonds, electromagnetic radiation can be classified as ionizing or non-ionizing. Electrical and biological hazards are the two main hazards associated with non-ionizing radiation. When an induced voltage exceeds the breakdown voltage of the ambient medium, extremely high electromagnetic radiation can create electric currents strong enough to produce sparks (electric arcs).

The spark may then ignite combustible objects or gases, possibly causing an explosion. When an induced voltage exceeds the breakdown voltage of the ambient medium, extremely high electromagnetic radiation may produce electric currents strong enough to produce sparks (electric arcs). The spark may then ignite combustible objects or gases, possibly causing an explosion. The biological effect of electromagnetic fields is to cause dielectric heating. Weak non-thermal electromagnetic fields, such as weak extremely low frequency magnetic fields and modulated radio frequency and microwave fields, can have complex biological consequences. Moving currents are caused by magnetic fields, and the intensity of these magnetic fields is exactly proportional to the strength of the magnetic field. Nerves and muscles are activated by such currents, which affect biological processes. The effects of weak EM radiation on humans can be understood as a series of events resulting from exposure to EM radiation which, when absorbed, modifies the pattern of the biological environment, deposits energy and information in body fluids, and alters the functional activities of the cell, all of which ultimately lead to disease. The radio frequency energy emitted by all types of cellular phones must be sufficient to reach the base stations (antenna towers). There are concerns about the health of the technology because the energy is created in the form of a microwave in close proximity to the user’s head. Cell research and animal studies have suggested that cell phone users have a slight chance of getting cancerous tumors, most of which are brain tumors.

Radiation can have a direct effect on adults and their children depending on the degree of exposure. Radiation can destroy the body’s cells, increasing the likelihood of cancer or dangerous genetic changes that can be passed on to future generations; alternatively, if the dose is high enough to cause major tissue damage, it can cause death within weeks of exposure.

2.Specific Absorption Ratio (SAR): SAR is a measure of the amount of radio frequency (RF) energy absorbed by human body tissue per kilogram. This test is done to see if a cell phone complies with safety requirements. The exposure limit is well below levels known to have biological consequences and takes into account the body’s ability to dissipate heat from tissues receiving energy from the mobile phone. The United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the International Commission for Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) of … Cell phones and base stations test the reception quality and signal intensity in most systems, and the power level is increased or decreased accordingly.

3. Effects of blue light on human eyes: Light is relayed by smart phones, laptops, and other portable gadgets. However, blue light, in particular, can be harmful to the skin. Macular degeneration is the result of photoreceptor cell loss in the retina. The goal of photoreceptor cells is to collect and transmit visual images to the brain through a substance called retinal. Retinal, which originates from the eye, is stimulated by blue light, which causes various chemical processes. These processes within the eye can be harmful to the cell molecules of the photoreceptors, causing damage. When photoreceptor cells die, they do not regenerate. “The toxicity of blue light in the retina is ubiquitous. It has the ability to kill any type of cell” Part of this may be due to the fact that blue light has a shorter wavelength than other colors and therefore contains more energy. The extra energy could explain the retina-induced toxicity that this chemical shift creates. Phone blue light The combination of blue light and retinal damage could damage cells; however, the study was done in a laboratory setting rather than on human eyes. According to the study, it is uncertain whether cell death is caused by blue light itself.

The topic of blue light from mobile phones and digital screens is a matter of whether it has the same degree of toxicity, and is currently being investigated. Although age-related macular degeneration affects people of all ages, it is more common after the age of 60. Experts believe that, with the increasing use of blue light technology, it will soon be as many people as ever suffer from age-related macular degeneration. By 2050, this number is projected to reach 22 million, according to the Bright Focus Foundation. Blue light is emitted not only by our electronic devices, but also by natural sunlight. Certain circumstances, such as using night gadgets, can increase blue light. In fact, the blue light produced filters the light into a very small area within the pupil in the dark. This effect is compared by one of the authors of the study to using a magnifying glass in the sun, the light produced can be so intense and concentrated that it can burn the eyes. Blue light from such screen gadgets can also cause dry eyes.

“Studies have indicated that increased use of iPhones, iPads and laptops has resulted in the development of dry eyes, which is associated with a decrease in blink rate.” The less individuals blink, the more they engage with their gadgets over time. Several tech firms have already proposed potential counter-measures to this trend. Apple has a “Night Shift” setting, while Samsung has a “Blue Light Filter” that reduces the amount of blue light reflected on the device’s screen. The former suggests “consider reducing the time spent on these devices” and “providing your eyes a break while performing long activities on the screen.” To relax the eye muscles and relieve unnecessary strain, he recommends closing your eyes for a short time or looking into the distance. Although this study is useful for those who are at risk of developing degenerative eye diseases, it’s another reason for everyone to restrict their screen time, especially after sunset.

4. Spot effects on human health: The effects of radio waves released by mobile phone contact can be characterized as thermal, non-thermal or nontoxic in terms of handsets, especially when it comes to human health. The thermal effect occurs when the electromagnetic field of radio waves induces polar molecules to release dielectric heat, which kills tissues. For example, while processing a message from radio waves, nerve fibers can be injured if the temperature in any area of the brain increases.

The non-thermal effect, which occurs when the temperature created by the radio waves continuously flows through the cell, occurs next to the thermal effect (electric current only) in the membrane, while the trans receives messages, and then the nontoxic effect, which includes chromosome damage, changes in the function of some genes and a faster rate of cell division. Non-ionizing radiation and ionizing radiation are two types of electromagnetic radiation that have different biological consequences. Non-ionizing radiation includes radio waves, microwaves, infrared and visible light waves, which lack the energy to break down atoms and molecules and turn them into ions, which are electrically charged particles. This indicates that non-ionizing radiation does not cause cancer or any other disease in people because it does not specifically destroy genetic material (DNA). Ionizing radiation such as X-rays and gamma rays may increase the risk of cancer, birth abnormalities and genetic disorders by causing DNA mutations as a result of atom and molecule ionization, especially at high doses.

There is no such thing as completely safe ionizing radiation. Dielectric heating is a well-known phenomenon of microwave radiation, in which the rotation of polar molecules caused by the electromagnetic field heats any dielectric material (such as living tissue). When a person uses a mobile phone, most of the heating effect may occur on the surface of the head, increasing the temperature by a fraction of a degree. The level of temperature increase in this scenario is an order of magnitude lower than that of exposure of the head to direct sunlight. The blood circulation of the brain is able to get rid of excess heat through local blood flow. Nonetheless, the cornea of the eye lacks this temperature-control mechanism, and 2-hour exposures were found to cause cataracts in the eyes of rabbits at SAR values of 100-140W/kg, while lenticular temperatures of 41°C resulted in no cataracts in the eyes of monkeys that were subjected to comparable conditions. The carrier signal is usually pulsed at a low frequency due to the signaling methods employed by mobile phones.

The biological relevance of these modifications has been questioned. Some various types of studies suggested that the so-called “non-thermal effect” could be reinterpreted as a specific biological response to temperature increases. For example, German biophysicist Roland Glaser proposed that cells contain several thermoreceptor molecules that activate a cascade of second and third messenger systems, gene expression mechanisms, and heat shock protein production to protect the cell from heat-induced metabolic cell stress. Because of the apparent stability of thermal equilibrium in his cell cultures, probes such as reflexes are unable to detect the temperature changes that induce these changes. Because stress proteins exist at very different frequencies (ELF) and radio frequencies (RF) with very different amounts of energy, some researchers believe they are unrelated to thermal effects. Using fluorine ox glucose injections and positron emission tomography, researchers found that radiofrequency radiation waves increased glucose metabolism in brain regions closest to the mobile phone antenna, although the clinical relevance of this finding is uncertain.
