Challenges And Future Of Adoption Of Artificial Intelligence (AI) In Educational Sectors

The interrelationship of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and education will continue to grow and evolve as data science continues to integrate itself into all sectors. To believe that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will have no impact on education would be foolish. Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education is one of the fields that is expanding the most in the present times. Although educators are still trying to find the best way to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) for pedagogy at large, it can have a profound impact on teaching and learning in higher education. The advantages and disadvantages of artificial intelligence in education and how it impacts society were discussed. This paper will discuss the application of artificial intelligence in education. It will go through some of the educational uses of artificial intelligence. The paper also discusses the current personalized learning systems, smart content consumption, widespread use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and how these have been used to meet the needs of students, focusing on the context of the United States. This paper concludes by emphasizing the difficulties faced so far by AI-based educational systems and the prospects of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the educational sector.

Challenges of Adopting AI in Educational Sectors

Integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the education system involves many steps and the adoption of AI in our educational system is still fraught with difficulties. Research on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on education has been conducted mainly in rich countries, while underdeveloped countries have paid less attention to this topic. This affects the generalizability of the study, which may not be relevant to developing countries. A comprehensive government plan for the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the education sector is still not fully developed, especially in developing countries. Public versus private company partnerships, the development of blueprints in the implementation stages of these Artificial Intelligence (AI) software systems, students’ data security and AI algorithm transparency, as well as relevant benchmark measures to assess students’ performance, should all be included in the policy to integrate AI into the education system of countries. There is significant discussion on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance social equity and education in developing countries.

The primary obstacle to implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education is financial planning and resource calculation. Predicting the budget can be quite difficult. For example, if every school can have an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system-based robot assistant, a separate budget will be required to maintain the robot. Therefore, nations will be obliged to provide a large budget for maintenance. To overcome this challenge, it is essential to understand the available Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based teaching tools and how they benefit students.

Another primary challenge with implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in education is that the issue bypasses the deeper issues associated with education such as under-resourced schools in underfunded school districts and underqualified teachers. Instead of addressing these prevalent current issues and difficulties experienced by instructors, institutions are encouraging and adopting new teaching strategies that conflict with traditional methods. The idea of completely implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) in our education system underestimates the relevance of human advisors in promoting learning, social-emotional, and creative ideas of teaching that go beyond simply disseminating knowledge that Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems promote.

The Future of Education in Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The integration of ML and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based technologies will continue to grow and be incorporated into learning technologies, requiring students to become familiar with how to use the technologies to their advantage. There will also need to be a greater emphasis in schools on ensuring that students are able to use AIED technologies. Similarly the United States Department of Education believes that AI in the education sector will continue to grow and will be a valuable resource for teachers who will be able to allocate more time to their students through the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems in task automation.

Investments in AIED technologies are constantly growing. Nearly $4 billion was invested internationally in AI tech start-ups in 2019, with the hope that Artificial Intelligence (AI) can improve student learning by providing individualized and personalized instruction. Since the pandemic, technology has played a bigger role in the delivery of education due to the rise of digitalization and the transition to online learning. This has led to an increase in data used to address industry concerns and enhance higher education for both instructors and students. However, the drawbacks highlight the need to use this technology as a supplement or aid rather than an alternative to current practices.

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) will never completely replace human teachers. Human teachers are required to be part of the education system because there is a bond between teachers and students that leads to the best learning outcomes and there are limitations to the code on which Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems are built. The bond and rapport cannot be created with an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based system, there also exists a level of emotional support that teachers must be able to provide to students that AI cannot simulate. This is especially important for younger students such as primary school. As Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to develop in the field of education, human teachers will continue to be part of the classroom, but will continue to be provided with more support through the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Although Artificial Intelligence (AI) may be able to suggest content and support students through personalized teaching, there also exists a barrier between what content Artificial Intelligence (AI) can provide and what teachers find important for students to learn specifically, which shows up in exams. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not as adaptive as the human brain, recognizing that it may be more important for students to review before an exam, especially if a teacher is covering material outside of the textbook or beyond what the AI system is capable of providing.

Conclusion

Through the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) software, it is clear that AI will continue to contribute and will become a huge part of education in the coming years. AI will be a tool that all teachers should use to assist in their teaching. In the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and education, we believe teachers will have Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based systems in the classroom to serve as teaching assistants that will help teachers complete their lesson plans, help with grading assessments, be an additional resource for students who need extra help and recommend ways to further improve lectures and assessments.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems are also likely to be present on each student’s laptop and another educational device to allow for student development and support through Artificial Intelligence (AI). However, we do not believe that there will ever be a scenario in which teachers will be completely removed from education. Ultimately, Artificial Intelligence (AI) will provide teachers with a new dimension of teaching and learning where they will be able to create immersive classrooms in which they will be assisted by smart technology to personalize lessons for students and have a non-human teaching companion i.e. Artificial Intelligence (AI). Just like other sectors have gone through a paradigm shift through the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their work, we believe that the education sector will also get integrated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) in a positive way that will help both teachers and students.
