Adverse Effects and Probable Solutions of Mobile Phones

The modern  World is almost completely dependent on advanced technology. As a result, our lives are completely influenced by modern technology-based devices such as mobile phones, laptops, tablets, computers, etc. However, we cannot think of a day without the magical device mobile phone. People from all sections of society use it widely for numerous purposes due to its ease of use. Nowadays, it works like an all in one. On one hand, it provides instant calls, messages, net browsing, email checking, watching videos, connecting with social media, online gaming, source of entertainment and much more. We are blessed with this device without any doubt as it keeps our modern life several steps ahead. On the other hand, people from all age groups are spending most of their time using mobile phones. Its excessive use can lead a person to face many problems such as depression, chronic pain, anxiety, sleeplessness at night and many more which are a threat to people.

Simply put, mobile phone is a communication device that has brought the whole world in the grasp of man. This amazing device was invented by Dr. Martin Kuyper working in Motorola company in America in 1973. At present, we are able to easily make phone calls using this amazing device along with many features like playing games, taking pictures, web browsing, enjoying live streaming videos.

Adverse effects of mobile phones

After analyzing all the necessary documents, we consulted a specialized doctor, psychologists and IT experts about the frequency range of mobile phone network and its harmful  effects  on human beings due to its long-term excessive use. After analyzing our collected data, we found that a large number of children and teenagers use mobile phones for a long time every day. Excessive use of mobile phones can cause tumors or brain cancer as their body structure is to continue till maturity. So there is a big risk of brain tumors and cancer in children. The risk is also there for all those classes of people who are using their smartphones for a long time.

  • Brain Activity

 Mobiles Phones are working with the help of electromagnetic system. The electromagnetic system is very harmful for humans. Excessive use of mobile phones can disturb the brain activities of a person. One can have many problems like behavioral tendencies and trouble in learning new things or concentrating properly.

  • Ear Problem

By constantly using mobile in loud sound, it can damage our eardrum. If we continue it for a long time then it will permanently damage our eardrum.

Weakens the immune system

We know that smart phones have oily, sticky residue on their screens. This type of screen contains a lot of germs and it weakens our immune system. This makes us more prone to diseases.

  • Eye problems

Recent studies have shown that 90% of people check their phones within five minutes of waking up. This is responsible for exposing our eyes to the kind of light that is harmful during the day. If we continue this for a long time, our eyes will be permanently affected.

  • Infertility

Mobile  phones generate an excess amount of radiation. This is completely harmful to humans. If we keep our mobile phones in our front pockets for a long time, its radiations can disrupt the sperms of men. In the long run, it can cause infertility.

  • If we are heavy users of internet and mobile phones, we will lack concentration and we will forget things easily.
  • This will affect our awareness and eventually lead to a passive mind. It will also cause weak focus and attention in our important tasks.

Stress

Nowadays  students are trying to get expensive mobile phones to maintain their image. They get stressed if their parents do not agree with them. Students (e.g. school, college) are using smart phones which have all the multiple features. They are using social media, watching videos, listening to music and communicating with others. This helps them to get more stressed.

Academic Malpractice

Nowadays it is seen that many students stop their mobile phones in the examination hall itself. They are able to store lots of files, save images/photos of textbooks in their mobile phones. Most of the time, they are trying to cheat in the examination hall. This is not only academic malpractice but it also weakens the personality of the students.

Low marks

Mobile phones have lots of features. It attracts students like an addiction. They use social media, chat with lots of friends and spend huge amount of time using mobile phones unnecessarily. As a result, they get low grades in the examination.

Lack of foresight

Due to using mobile phones for a long time, students are not able to get proper time to sleep and they are also not able to get proper time to do important work. Hence, they start getting more stress, anxiety and depression. Thus, they are not able to make proper decisions or set certain goals due to their unstable mind.

Cyber ​​bullying means cyber harassment of a person using online electronic systems. A recent study shows that especially teenagers are doing this. Effects of cyber bullying-

  • Increasing student suicides
  • Increase in aggression among students

  • Inappropriate media

Mobile phone brings the world so close. We can call anytime, anywhere using the network. We can watch any type of video anywhere. We can easily exchange images anytime. It is more of a concern for children that they can easily get pornography which will be more risky for younger people.

Probable  Solutions for Mobile Phone Use

According to the opinions of doctors, psychologists, IT experts and lots of studies on the subject, we got these solutions on how we can reduce the problem of excessive use of mobile phones:

  • For long hours of communication, we need to use hands-free sets. This will reduce the radiation when we make calls using earpiece and microphone. This can reduce the radiation while making calls.
  • When we talk we should use speakerphone (though it is antisocial, but if there is no one around) and we should keep our phone at a little distance. (The manual of iPhone 4 suggests that we should keep it 15mm away from us while transmitting data from our phone to another phone or any other source.)
  • When we are in lifts, basements and tunnels we should avoid using mobile phones. Because for less time our handset gets less signal, which generates high radiation at that moment. We can use the “TalkON” application which helps us to monitor our mobile phone radiations and suggests when we should stop using it.
  • Avoid unnecessary calls. We can use text, email or other messaging services instead of calling which can be the easiest way to reduce your exposure.
  • We should turn off our smartphone before going to bed. Or our phone should be away from our bed. Because when we sleep late then the mobile phone radiation is definitely very harmful for us. A comprehensive study on excessive mobile phone use and preventive measures
  • We need to optimize the notifications on our smartphone. If we get less notifications then we will check our smartphone less. Because unnecessary notifications can waste our time.
  • If there is a mobile phone tower in or around our residential building then we need to be extra careful. Because the nearest tower gives extra amount of radiation.
  • We should avoid using mobile phones when we are travelling from one place to another by airbus or any type of vehicles with closed doors or windows. More radiation is required to maintain proper signal near any metal body or any close place.
  • Being parents or adults, it is most important for us and other people in the house to restrict excessive use of phone when we are in front of our kids. Because nowadays kids are more attracted towards the phone than watching their parents or other family members.

  • Unnecessary use should be avoided
  • Long-term use should be stopped
  • Delete all apps that you do not use
  • Set specific limits for smart phone use
  • Do not use the phone during mealtime
  • Do not use the phone in the toilet
  • Do not use the phone at social events
  • Do not use the phone in the bedroom
  • Avoid unnecessary group chats
  • Avoid making calls or messaging while driving

Today’s world is a world of  technology and inventions, and there are many devices that essentially make our lives convenient. Mobile phones play an important role in the development of human civilization, but their excessive use brings serious problems such as germs, traffic accidents, cancer, electromagnetic  radiation  and health effects  such as changes in brain activity and sleep patterns and other . To minimize their harmful effects, one should always remember that the mobile phone is your friend, not your master and it should never be used too much. People can avoid health hazards by understanding what the risks are and how to avoid them.
