Promoting Your Blog The Right Way

First and foremost, you need to go into your blogging adventure with a clear idea of what you want to achieve. This is not with the expectation that you will succeed. After all, what does that even mean? You may want to share your thoughts with the world. Or you may want to get 100,000 unique visitors each month to feel like you have accomplished something. Maybe you want to focus on generating income, and your main concern is making $100,000 next year. That is doable. You just need to be specific about your goal with your blog. You can achieve blogging goals if you are willing to put in the work and are prepared to make it happen. Success in the blogging industry is not a mysterious process. It is manageable and predictable that results from doing what is best done over a period of time. The following are the steps you need to take to promote your blog the right way, and how to make it into something that is more than just a few ragged posts that don’t attract much attention.

Step One: Daily Action Plan Every promotion plan requires regular action. The size of your goals and how quickly you want to achieve them is going to weigh heavily on what daily activities you want to write down in your plan. However, writing this plan down is very important and it can be something you can do on a daily basis. Daily action is the key element here. Your daily action plan includes tasks that will produce results that will grow your business. Checking and analyzing your AdSense revenue are important, but they don’t count here. These are administrative tasks that won’t directly produce growth. The point of your daily action plan is to create a specific plan that will perform specific tasks every day. For example, make 100 personal contacts daily and write three pages of content. Do this every day. It’s simple in theory, but it can be difficult and sometimes you can’t do it in a day. However, this is the gauge you should use to measure success on a daily basis. This gives you something to go for that you can achieve most days. It should be a little challenging but difficult. It should also have actions that will grow your blog audience.

Step Two: Go 60 Days Without Changing Your Site After your first design, and the site is up, you’re going to be constantly tempted to change it again and again. Resist that urge. Pledge to introduce the blog and then zilch but promote it for sixty days. Design is imperative, but constantly tweaking the site will be a distraction. In the beginning, there isn’t a community. You’ll be getting up to thirty visitors a day, so get out there and network yourself. These things are much more important than getting your logo right. The final design will make itself clear as you gain followers. If you fail to build your audience at first, no one will care either way.

Step Three: Refuse Ads Put the pitchforks away, please! Here’s the thing, ad revenue is wonderful, but when you first launch a blog, you have a lot of work you need to do. Tweaking modules and trying to optimize ads for a blog is going to make you a few dollars a month and waste a lot of your time. We’re talking about building a winning business blog, right? Skip on advertising for now. Yes, you may make a few dollars, but the most valuable asset right now is your time. Don’t waste it on something that will make you a lousy $10. Put ads in later if you start getting a lot of traffic. That’s when it will be worth your time.

Step Four: Pillar Content When you launch a blog site, you should have a list of twenty to thirty amazing article ideas all ready to go. Fill your blog with excellent content that is the focus of the blog because this will attract your target audience and show your expertise. You are laying the foundation for the business. Take some time to create your pillar content. This will attract long-time readers, and it will show your new readers what your blog is about.

Step Five: Network Networking is one of the key business activities for anyone who wants to start something that needs an audience or clients. It always has been, and it always will be. Internet business is a people-oriented business. Find the top twenty to thirty blogs in your chosen topic and get acquainted with them. Read those blogs and get to know the writers in them. Build relationships with them. This will take time and persistence, but it is worth it. A word of caution here is to not blast them with spam asking them to help you. You should just get to know them a little. You can learn a lot by hanging out with people who are successful in your chosen field.

Step Six: Blogs and Forums Anyone who knows blogs is familiar with leaving comments on them. This is an essential activity for anyone trying to build an online presence. Blogs and forums will give you plenty of opportunities to join the conversation. Don’t ruin it by being promotional. Just use your name, leave a few helpful comments, and participate in a genuine way.

Step Seven: Respond to Readers It’s surprising how many business owners on the Internet don’t respond to posts or respond to a comment personally. If it’s not a priority, why isn’t it? There’s a lot to be said about following the basics. In other words, check e-mail! Respond to and appreciate your audience. Every minute you spend interacting with them on a personal level is a minute well spent. They’ll come back because of it.

Step Eight: Start Building an E-mail List From day one, you need an opt-in box to encourage visitors to sign up for the e-mail list. There’s an argument for waiting until you have more traffic, but an e-mail list of ten people is a lot more exciting than you realize. Think about how great it will be to know that there are people who find value in what you’re doing. Open the door to communication right away. Never wait. The sooner you start interacting with people via e-mail, the more comments and criticism you’ll receive that will provide useful insight into what you’re doing right.

Step Nine: Use the Power of the 100 Rule You should make 100 personal contacts every day. Sending a personal e-mail, not a bulk one, answering a message, making a phone call, and leaving a blog comment are all ways to make contacts. If often forces you not to watch television because you have a few more interactions to make before you go to bed, that really helps you stay on track. It’s a types of mechanism that helps you get your priorities straight without having to think about it.
